Larkana’s six paediatricians may perform service in Thar

LARKANA: On the telephonic directions of Health Secretary, six paediatricians of Basic Scale 17 & 18 working in Paediatrics Wards of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, have been directed to report to the District Health Officer, Tharparkar to give medical cover to poor ailing patients of the famine-hit district of Sindh province.

These doctors include Dr Jawaid Akhtar s/o Shah Muhammad Shaikh, Registrar, Dr Zulfiqar Ali s/o Barkat Ali Mangi, Senior Medical Officer, Dr Sharafuddin s/o Ghulam Muhammad Panhwar, Dr Mumtaz Ali Soomro s/o Muhammad Koral, Dr. Muhammad Panah s/o Muhammad Yaqoob Brohi, and Dr Abdul Hameed s/o Noor Muhammad Tunio. This also proves the gravity of child patients treatment and shortage of specialist doctors in the desert area due to which so many children have died without getting proper treatment.

It is pertinent to mention here that over 200 posts of doctors of various scales are lying vacant in this largest Teaching Hospital of upper Sindh since very long due to which the doctors posted here are already overburdened to the extent that rotation duties of as many as 45 doctors has been issued under which they have been directed to perform 15-days Medico-Legal duties.

This shows that the Medico Legal Officers are not available as per the sanctioned strength of the Hospital and there is no women Medico Legal Officers and they too are performing MLC duties on 15-days rotation basis.

The hospital authorities have written so many letters to the Health Department for filling of these vacant posts through Sindh Public Service Commission but without any response though the salary of all the vacant posts is always annually released by the finance department and during quarterly reconciliation the amount is shown non-utilized and spent by the bosses elsewhere.

These posts are the strength posts of this hospital which should have been filled through proper forum but it seems that the Government wants to fill these posts on ad hoc or on contract basis to recruit their own loved ones as they have been doing in the past.

The people have demanded that the doctors of nearby areas of Tharparkar be transferred there to discharge their duties in desert and filling of vacant posts purely on merit through SPSC to establish good governance and discourage favouritism.
