Power project at Kidney Hill Park inaugurated

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi, Sindh Government Spokesman and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday said that the PPP was not going to run away from the local bodies elections as whenever the polls are held, the PPP will have Mayors in Karachi and Hyderabad.

The Administrator said this while addressing the opening ceremony of the 100 kilowatt power generation project at Kidney Hill Park here. “Those who doubted the popularity of PPP should seek lession from the by-election of Malir where after four years, the people took back the stolen seat and took revenge with the PTI. Imran Khan should support the government to help the suffering humanity affected by flood instead of protest march.

We also agreed on improving the local government system, our commitment in this regard will be seen in the next 48 hours. To combat climate change, KMC has planted trees across the city and is now going to set a new tradition in the form of a green energy project, proving that local bodies can work,” he said.

Director General Parks Junaidullah Khan and other officers were also present on the occasion. Wahab said that KMC is working on promoting the concept of green energy and in the first phase, solar panels are being installed in Kidney Hill Park to generate 100 kilowatts of electricity.

“Within a month, these solar panels will start working and be able to generate 100 kilowatts of electricity at a monthly cost of around Rs 5 million,” he added. He said that this initiative will also prove to be an important step in reducing the expenses of KMC as it is reducing its expenses and increasing revenue sources to become financially stable.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the money that used to be spent on traditional electricity acquisition will now be used for development works. He said that this step will be an important milestone for Clean Green Karachi. He said that KMC will also set up such projects in other available places. He said that by creating an urban forest in Clifton and other places, it has been proved that there can be greenery in Karachi as well.

“Kidney Hill is a beautiful and lush place covering an area of 62 acres where 1.5 million saplings have been planted. A large number of people come here to see the solar energy systems installed in this park and get the motivation,” he added.

The Administrator in response to a question, said that PTI itself had approached the court to stop the local bodies elections. He said that he has consulted with various parties to amend the Local Government Law. Wahab said that laws are always evolving and need to be improved.

He said that a summary of the amendments to the municipal laws will be sent for legislation in the next 48 hours. He said that at present PPP is present among the people and is trying to solve their problems.

“We are also trying to rehabilitate the closed parks and also creating an urban forest in Gutter Baghicha, which will provide a beautiful and green place to the people of Lyari, Keamari and other areas of West District, the Administrator said.
