Separate exhumation board demanded for upper Sindh region

LARKANA: The Vice Chancellor (VC), Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, Prof Asadullah Mahar, has written a letter to the Health Secretary, informing him that separate Exhumation Board may be constituted at Ghulam Muhammad Maher Medical College Hospital (GMMMCH), Sukkur, for four districts of upper Sindh in the larger public interest and early disposal of cases.

The GMMMCH exhumation board will deal with four districts including Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki and Kashmore. The VC has said in his letter that presently Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, was dealing with eight district including Kambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki and Larkana.

After establishment of GMMMC at Sukkur, the required experts for exhumation board are now available such as Professor of Pathology, Assistant Professors of Forensic Medicine, Anatomy and Police Surgeon, hence, four districts may be given to GMMMCH and four to CMCH which include Kambar-Shahdadkot, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad and other four districts to GMMMCH which will ensure speedy disposal of such legal cases for which court issue orders to ascertain exact cause of death.

It may be noted here that Medical Superintendent, Dr Safiullah Abbasi, has already written several letters to Health Department over the same issue but still the decision was in pending due to which constitution of Exhumation Board of these far flung areas were always delayed for many reasons including worsened law & order situation and non-cooperation of concerned police stations.
