Chandka Hospital Emergency Dept. remained closed for five hours after death of a snake bite girl

Larkana: A 19-year-old Pareesa daughter of Muhammad Ali Umrani, the niece of Inayat Umrani, the central leader of the Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto, was bitten by a snake in the Mour Umrani village and she was brought at Casualty of the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday early morning where she died.

The relatives of the girl accused doctors of negligence, the angry people tortured duty Dr. Junaid Raza then took the dead body and staged a sit-in on the VIP Road where they shouted slogans against CMCH Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Gulzar Tunio and the doctors.

The central leader of PPP-Shaheed Bhutto, Inayat Umrani, Liaquat Umrani, Javed Lahori, Lalo Surhio and others said that our daughter Pareesa Umrani was taken to the CMCH emergency department at night due to a snake bite in Mour Umrani village where she died due to non-treatment by the doctors, which is due to the incompetence of doctors including Dr. Junaid and his other staff, which is why we have staged a protest on the VIP road until case is registered against Dr. Gulzar Tunio, Dr. Junaid and others. Later, the unruly people reached the MS office and ransacked it, causing fear and panic among the doctors and staff.

Former MPA Moazzam Ali Abbasi joined the protest showing solidarity with the agitators where he demanded a transparent investigation of the incident. He said that the public hospitals of Larkana, like the whole of Sindh, are poorly managed despite receiving a budget of billions of rupees annually, but compared to that, there are no facilities including medicines here, where 3 to 4 bodies are delivered every day. He said that the concerned authorities should take notice of the matter and investigate it thoroughly.

After the incident, young Dr. Junaid Sandano, who was the target of torture, reached the Civil Lines police station where he informed the police about the matter and demanded to file an FIR but the police kept on avoiding and various excuses were being given said Dr. Tunio.

The doctors boycotted their duties as a protest, due to which the condition of the patients admitted in the emergency department became alarming and many patients were languishing in the hospital.

After five hours, on the instructions of SSP Asif Raza Baloch, a large number of policemen were deployed outside the emergency department and opened the emergency ward, after which the patients were given medical aid.

CMCH MS Dr. Gulzar Tunio told the media that the patient arrived in the morning and the duty doctor asked the attendants to reduce rush but the angry people quarreled with him and took away their patient. Then, he added, the same patient was again brought after two hours. He said the doctor called me and told me that the same patient had come again.

The doctor was told that we have nothing to do with people, provide medical aid immediately to the patient, and the staff even gave her a vaccine. He said that when the relatives took the patient for two to three hours, her condition was not good, so she died.

He requested the Sindh Chief Minister and the Provincial Minister of Health Department to order the arrest of all the people involved in the attack, register a case of the incident against them and provide protection to the doctors and staff. Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Ali Soomro said that we are with the doctors as they provide services even to the flood victims and save precious lives.
