Rawalpindi: Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has said that government was making all out efforts for the promotion of interfaith harmony in the country.
He said that 2013 would be the year of general elections as the elected democratic government of the country was going to complete the constitutional term of five years for the first time. The credit for this goes to all the political forces, he added.
He stated this at a function held in connection with the celebrations of Christmas under the auspices of Pur Fazal Kaliseya Pakistan.
Minister of State for National Harmony, Akram Mashi Gill, Chairman Pakistan Baitul-Mall Zumrad Khan, Allama Izhar Bukhari also addressed the function. Paster Sohail Pervaiz, former Federal Minister Col ® S.K. Tresslor and a large number of people from Christian community and civil society attended the function.
He felicitated the Christians on the eve of Christmas and said it was time for festivity, celebration and rejoicing.
He called for promoting interfaith dialogue and harmony among people belonging to different religions.
Stressing upon the need for dialogue and understanding, Chairman Senate said all the religions gave the message of love, forgiveness and brotherhood to the people without any prejudice and discrimination. He also underlined the need for implementing the teachings of the great religions in individual and collective lives.
The Chairman Senate also acknowledged the services of Christian community of the country saying they Christians are the role model especially in Health and Education sector.
Minister of State for National Harmony, Akram Mashi Gill addressing the participants said that the federal government was providing equal opportunities to all the citizens without any discrimination. He appreciated the efforts of Paster Parvaiz for interfaith harmony in the country.
