FATA MNAs join Pakistan Peoples Party

Islamabad: Mr. Jawad Hussain and Mr. Sajid Hussain Turi, who were elected as independent members of the National Assembly, from NA-39 (Orakzai Agency) and NA-37 (Kuram Agency) respectively met Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf here Friday and announced to join Pakistan People’s Party.

Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Mr. Anwar Saifullah, President of PPP (KP), were also present during the meeting.

While talking to the Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf, Mr. Jawad Hussain and Mr. Sajid Hussain Turi said that they had taken the decision to join PPP keeping in view the political situation in the country and particularly that prevailing in FATA.

They said that the PPP was the only political party which worked for the welfare of people of FATA. They particularly referred to reforms in FCR and implementation of Political Parties Ordinance in FATA undertaken by the present government, which demonstrated the party’s commitment to giving rights to people of the region.

Mr. Jawad Hussain and Mr. Sajid Hussain Turi said that the scope and scale of development work carried out by the PPP-led government in FATA had influenced their decision to join the party.

They said that the party’s commitment to mainstreaming the region with rest of the country was evidenced by the fact that it increased development spending from Rs. 4 billion to over Rs. 17 billion in FATA. They said that they could better take care of people’s interests by working within the fold of the PPP,

Welcoming Mr. Jawad Hussain’s and Mr. Sajid Hussain Turi’s decision to join Pakistan People’s Party, the Prime Minister said that it was a testimony to fruits of policy of understanding of reconciliation and understanding that the present government had been following to deal with national issues.

He said that this reflected people’s confidence in the performance of the PPP-led government.

The Prime Minister said that with their joining, the party would become stronger in FATA. He hoped that new entrants would work wholeheartedly for the welfare of the people of Pakistan.
