Groundbreaking of Greater Karachi Water Supply Project KIV expected next month

Karachi: Project for 650 Million Gallon additional water supply to Karachi Greater Karachi Water Supply Project KIV is expected to be kicked off next month. A budget of 25 billion rupees has been approved and President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to perform the groundbreaking of the project.

Karachi Water and Sewerage Board had also invited the tenders from international firms for consultancy. The advertisements are also released to international papers.

A meeting chaired by Managing Director KW&SB Misbahuddin Farid, discussed the matters relating to preparation of groundbreaking ceremony. Project Director KIV Mashkoor ul Hasnain, Chief Engineer Saleem Siddiqui and other high profile officers of KW&SB were present in the meeting.

M.D KW&SB said that Board started preparing for KIV project right after the completion of KIII. In this regard President Asif Ali Zardari, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani and Members of Sindh Assembly cooperated fully with the KW&SB to start the project.

Due to these combined efforts 2500 million rupees were approved for KIV project, which would provide 260 million additional gallons water to the citizens of Karachi, he said.

The project would be completed in three steps and upon completion of the third step 650 gallons additional water would be provided to the citizens of Karachi. The KIV project would span on 124 kilometres starting from Keenjhar Lake and would end at Northern Bypass after passing through Thatta.
