Guru’s family vows to continue struggle for his mortal remains
Srinagar, February 09, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the family members of Muhammad Afzal Guru on his sixth martyrdom anniversary vowed to continue their struggle for return of his mortal remains till their last breath. India had executed Muhammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February in 2013 and his body remains buried in the premises of the jail.
Tabassum, widow of Afzal Guru, in a media interview said, “We will continue with our demand for return his (Afzal Guru’s) mortal remains until our last breath. We have also been demanding the books, clothes and other items that he had with him in the jail but nothing has been returned to us till date.”
She pointed out that Indian officials often visited them and offered assistance but they refused it. Tabassum said that if the Government of India or the puppet regime in occupied Kashmir seriously wanted to help their family then they should hand them over his mortal remains. Six years back when Guru was sent to the gallows, she said, “The Indian society’s collective conscience must have been satisfied but the Indian Supreme Court’s decision has failed to break the will of our family.”
She also pointed out that every year her relatives come a day earlier to participate in special prayers arranged for Afzal Guru. “However, the Indian Army today put restrictions and did not allow anybody to visit our home. Many relatives are calling us that they are not being allowed to visit our home and asked to go back,” she added.
