Hockey: India stuns greenshirts in Asian Champions Trophy

Karachi: Defending champions India dominated the match against event’s favourites Pakistan and recorded a 21 victory in Asian Champions Trophy on Monday night at the Al Rayyan Hockey Stadium in Doha Qatar.

Four places lower ranked India dominated the round match against World No 5 Pakistan – taking the revenge of their Champions Trophy’s third place playoff match defeat.

After a barren first half, Rupinder Pal Singh broke the ice in the very first minute of the second half. India doubled their lead with youngster Chinglensana scoring in the 51st minute to left the Champions Trophy bronze medallist trailing 02 down.

But Pakistan managed to reduce the arrears with a goal from Mohammad Waqas. However, it was the last goal that came during the match as India finished the match with 21 score.

The victory put India on top of the table and certain spot in the final of the tournament with inaccessible 12 points.

The greenshirts, however, sits jointly with Malaysia on second place with seven points each.

Who will be going in the final of the two will be decided today Wednesday, when Pakistan will take on Japan and Malaysia will face up with inform India in their respective last pool matches.
