Karachi: The green-shirts are in great form and their morale is high and in order to keep up their form, high morale and confidence, they need to win the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy.
“Pakistan is favourite to clinch the tournament,” Hasan Sardar, the former legendary Olympian said. “They need to keep up their form and perform consistently and also win the tournament as it has been expected of them.”
Hasan hailed Pakistan’s big 8-3 victory against Oman and said that the green-shirts need to record similar victories against other teams as well during the tournament.
“Pakistan should continue to perform consistently and they must not get complacent against other teams after the big triumph,” he added.
He said that bronze medal in Champions Trophy was a big achievement and the green-shirts could now shape up a vision for once more making their place among world elite hockey teams.
“Pakistan should now think big and should now look for big goals so that they could regain their lost glory. And in order to achieve that, the team must perform consistently and should regularly win matches and tournaments where they are favourites,” he said.
Hasan said that the defending champions India will give tough resistance to Pakistan during the tournament but Pakistan will have an edge when the two sides faces each other as the green-shirts have recently defeated the traditional rivals in Champions Trophy’s third place playoff match.
“India will be a tough side to overpower but Pakistan will have psychological advantage as they have defeated India in Champions Trophy’s third place play-off match,” he said.
Pakistan, the world No 5, is the highest ranked team competing in the tournament. India, the closest opponent Pakistan will face, is ranked at 11th in the world.
