Indian authorities bar IOK people from attending funerals

August 29, 2019

Srinagar, August 29, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, after banning the congregation prayers, the Indian government has started preventing the people of the territory from attending funerals of their dear ones who pass away.

The Indian authorities fear that these funerals could turn into anti-India protest demonstrations. Since the imposition of curfew and other restrictions in the territory on 5th August when New Delhi repealed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have not been allowing people to offer congregational prayers particularly Juma prayers in big mosques across the Kashmir valley. Now they are not allowing people to participate in the funeral of the deceased persons.

Despite severe restrictions imposed by India since August 05, at least 500 incidents of protest demonstrations have occurred in occupied Kashmir. Hundreds of people have sustained injuries due to the use of brute force including firing of bullets, pellets and teargas shells by Indian forces’ personnel on the participants of these protests.
