Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has banned installation of all types of signboards, billboards and hoardings in the city whereas the relocation of such boards will also be prohibited.
KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, chairing a meeting in his office on Tuesday, said that the image of city was being ruined due to random and unsystematic installation of signboards whereas were facing difficulties and inconvenience due to huge billboards on streets.
He said that henceforth issuance of NoC for every signboard would be linked with the approval from Director General Technical Services and Senior Director Transport & Communication.
He issued directive to remove all signboards, other than the auctioned hoardings on Sharae Faisal, Shahrah-e-Pakistan and Shahrah-e-Quaideen, immediately.
He said Shahrah-e-Quaideen after reconstruction will be the biggest corridor of the city in which four lanes for each track had been made.
Construction of storm water drain with RCC covering has not only widened the road but also made this corridor the widest road in the city.
He said that the size of bill boards on Shahrah-e-Quaideen should also be reduced. He said that big signboards on various locations caused inconvenience in traffic vision such boards should be removed from corridors. He said that all precautionary measures while installation of hoardings should be opted along with the consideration of recommended standard and size.
The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Matanat Ali Khan, Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Sr. Director Transport & Communication Muhammad Ather, Director Local Taxes Akhtar Shaikh and other officers.
