Karachi: Expressing concern over prevailing law and order situation in the metropolis, legal fraternity of the city on Thursday said that lawyers would take out peace rally on February 27 as part of efforts to bring harmony in the provincial capital.
This was announced by Sindh High Court Bar Association, President Mustafa Lakhani, along with representatives of Karachi Bar Association, Malir Bar Association and Supreme Court Bar Association held a press conference on Thursday. Mustafa Lakhani said that legal fraternity will play its role since law and order is not maintained.
He asserted that government and other law enforcement agencies had failed to maintain law and order situation in the Karachi. He said Sindh High Court Bar with Karachi and Malir Bars will organise peace rally on February 27. Lakhani said that lawyers would march from city court to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He pleaded to political parties, civil society and people belonging to different sections of life to participate in the peace march. In addition, he said that they would hold peace conference on the 2nd and 3rd March, where all the stakeholders, representatives of various bars, lawyers, traders and people from various sections of life would be invited.
He said, “Business community is facing extreme hardships because of unrest in the city and extortion being collected from them. Such situation deters the investors from investing in the mega city, therefore, the country’s economy was going down day by day and in such situation country cannot attain progress.”
