MDM concerned about Dr Qasim’s deteriorating health in IOK jail
Srinagar, March 29, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health of its illegally detained President, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, lodged at Udhampur Jail in Jammu.
An MDM spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo is suffering from acute glaucoma and other ailments and in absence of any medical treatment, his condition has deteriorated to an alarming proportion.
He said recently the family members of Dr Qasim visited him in the Udhampur Jail and expressed concern over his worsening health condition. He said Dr Qasim has developed acute gastroenterologie problem and remained on bed for 10 days. There is no medical doctor available in the jail premises and he is not being taken for a medical check-up as well, the spokesman deplored. He said Dr Qasim is being subjected to political vendetta due to his non-compromising political stand.
The spokesman said that Dr Qasim was shifted from Srinagar Central Jail on the pretext of a medical check-up despite clear court orders that he should not be shifted from there. His shifting was against the standing instructions of the Supreme Court of India which has clearly laid out that a prisoner should be lodged at a jail nearest to his home.
He said in Udhampur jail, Dr Qasim has been denied medical treatment that has resulted in the worsening of his health condition. He is being kept in solitary confinement and even the inmates are not allowed to meet him, he added.
The spokesman said after keeping Dr Qasim in illegal detention for 26 years, the way forward should have been to release him but the Indian government and its local stooges have shredded every word in the book of law in his case. He appealed to the world human rights organisations to look into the case of Dr Qasim and play role in his early release.
