NA Speaker calls for strengthening democratic institutions

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf says former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto has left indelible mark in the national politics whose struggle for revival of democracy will always be remembered.

He was addressing a ceremony organized by Women Parliamentary Caucus in connection with the 69th birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said Benazir Bhutto remained an exemplary leader both inside and outside the parliament. He said Benazir Bhutto in fact is the founder of the philosophy that democracy is the best revenge.

He emphasized the need for waging a struggle for further strengthening democratic institutions and for the rights of oppressed women.

Speaking on the occasion, former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani said Bhutto family has always rendered sacrifices for the sake of democracy.
