Nilofar terms women’s economic empowerment vital for country’s development

Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women Nilofar Bakhtiar has termed economic empowerment of women as key to development and progress of the country.

She was speaking during an interactive dialogue for financial inclusion of women organized by NCSW in collaboration with the Egyptian Embassy and UN Women Pakistan in Islamabad on Monday.

She said only one percent of women are entrepreneurs in Pakistan, which is the lowest rate in this region.

Nilofar Bakhtiar said the NCSW is introducing various initiatives and bringing together key actors to openly discuss the gaps and to identify solutions essential for inclusion of more women in the business world.

The spouse of the Egyptian Ambassador to Pakistan Ms. Aliya provided the venue for the dialogue being a keen supporter of women’s economic empowerment initiatives. She believes that women from all over the globe need to support each other to claim their rightful status in society.

The office bearers of the Women Chambers of Commerce and Industries from all over Pakistan, key figures from the financial institutes and major Banks participated in the session.
