Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said, education is the only way of national development and nothing is possible without acquiring quality education in this modern era; and as such we want pen and books in the hands of our young generation.
He expressed these views while addressing as chief guest in the Annual Day function of a private school system at Peshawar, the other day.
He said that keeping in view the importance of education to steer the nation towards prosperity, the founders of Awami National Party had long before started a movement to provide free and quality education to the people of this region by establishing schools; adding that Malala Yousafzai is the new face of that very movement and she became target of the extremist elements who want to keep this nation ignorant and ill-manner but the followers of Bacha Khan would strive to continue and accomplish the cause of Malala even at the cost of their lives.
Touching upon the measures taken by the incumbent provincial government for the uplift of education sector, the provincial minister said that first time in the history of the province, four percent of the GDP has been allocated for education sector, which has helped a lot to improve the literacy rate in the province.
Referring to the issue of polio vaccinators being attacked by terrorists, he was of the view that it was a well-planned conspiracy to isolate the country by portraying an image that the people of the country were against polio drops. He categorically said that polio campaign would be carried out at any cost as the government was determined to take all types of measures to make Pakistan a polio free country.
At the end, provincial minister gave away certificates and shields to the students with brilliant performance in their curricular and extra curricular activities.
