Karachi: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PMLN Senator Tariq Azim on Thursday expressed deep concern over news reports that the PPP-led government wants to spend billions of rupees on development schemes in the prime minister’s constituency despite a ban by the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP on new schemes and the diversion of funds from one project to another.
In a statement, the PMLN senator alleged: “This is not the first time that the government has decided to defy the ECP ban as the prime minister had earlier unlawfully diverted flood funds for development of his constituency.”
Azim said the government wanted funds as it intended to mint money in form of commission. He also questioned the logic of seeking funds just days before elections, claiming that it is impossible for any member to execute any project in such a short period of time.
“This is prepoll rigging and an open challenge to ECP’s jurisdiction,” he said.
