Protest against Indian army in Shopian

Srinagar, March 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the residents of Keller and adjoining villages in Shopian staged a protest in Keller market against the Indian army, saying the troops are continuously harassing and assaulting the residents of the area. The residents said that the Indian army was frequently beating up people, snatching mobile phones and identity cards of civilians without any reason. “The people whose identity cards and mobile phones are snatched are summoned to Mastpota camp, where they beat them up,” the protesters said.

They said that one Myser Ahmad Khanday, son of Ghulam Qadir Khanday, a resident of Keller, was beaten many times. Another resident said that few days ago army snatched mobile phones of three brothers and asked them to visit the camp to collect the phones and identity cards. “However, when they visited the camp, they were beaten up,” he said.

Local people aid that last night another youth, Umer Dar of Chowan Keller, was hospitalized after he was beaten up by troopers. Scores of people including women and children from the area hit the streets and chanted slogans demanding justice.
