SHC seeks committee to provide assistance to violence hit families

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court SHC on Thursday ordered chief secretary Sindh to constitute a committee to provide assistance to the families affected by violence in the city and dependents of the missing persons.

Headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, the division bench of SHC, was seized with a petition filed by Nisar A Mujahid, a lawyer and chairman of the Human Rights and Civil Liberties Society of Pakistan, who sought the court’s direction for the rehabilitation and financial aid to families and children of the missing persons.

Syed Mansoor, representing Baitul Maal, submitted that a committee be formed comprising representatives of the Baitul Maal, home department and social welfare department to conduct a survey of each and every deserving family and provide assistance to that family.

The court directed chief secretary to constitute such committee and file comments in this regard.

The court ordered that a representative from the police may also be added in the committee, who will conduct the survey of affected families and recommend monthly appropriate assistance to them.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till August 7.
