Shehla Raza and Sindh Women Parliamentarians attends CSW-63/2019 event in New York from 12-17 March
Karachi, March 17, 2019 (PPI-OT):The Sindh Minister for Women Development along with Women representatives of Sindh Assembly and NGOs attended the 63 CSW-2019 at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 11 to 22 March 2019. The 63 CSW-2019 shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
During the event Syeda Shehla Raza while representing the Sindh province at highest level, described the status and conditions of Women in the province for which the present Elected Government of Sindh and PPP striving hard to ameliorate the status and condition of a woman through concrete steps and proper legislation in Sindh assembly to further protect and shield their basic needs and rights in a appropriate manner.
Syeda Shehla Raza has said that under clear and understandable vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto towards the Women of Pakistan, PPP had made historical and strong legislation for women including passed the Early Child Marriage, Harassment at workplace and End of domestic violence against them. She further said that we are continuing the raise their status establishment of commission of women, two bills are under process in Sindh Assembly. She has also shared the data and views on significant role of women in Parliament in a session on “Women in Parliament and challenges they face being women Parliamentarian”.
Syeda Shehla Raza being a head of the delegation of Sindh to attend such CSW-63/ 2019 event while addressing the gathering, has further said that to represent Pakistan here PPP led present Government of Sindh had also working on Acid Throwing and many other laws for protection of women under clear directions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is very much visionary about the women rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights. As women reclaiming social, political and public spaces important for progress, she added.
It may be mentioned here that Syeda Shehla Raza and delegation of Sindh also attended side event at CSW-63 co-hosted by Pakistan, Qatar and Gambia on Social protection making it work for families to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls and side event hosted Pakistan, Iran and Indonesia on social protection systems, access for women in Asian perspective.
Syeda Shehla Raza the Minister Women Development Department Sindh had also met with Ms. Maleeha Lodhi, Serving Permanent UN Ambassador of Pakistan hosted a dinner in Pakistan House, for visiting women parliamentarians in which community members from NYC and Head of National Commission on status Ms. Khawar Mumtaz was also attended.
Syeda Shehla Raza discussed the status and condition, gender equality issues in Pakistan with related CSW-63/2019.On the occasion Ms Maleeha Lodhi while appreciating the role of women in Pakistan, that the country was lucky to have such able parliamentarians to represent the Pakistan and at the events and session and community members from New York City.
Syeda Shehla Raza has appreciated the CSW-63/2019 event, pleasure meeting of the delegation with permanent Ambassador of Pakistan and others delegates of the Events and sessions has said that the event in all solidarity for achieving pathways to smart diplomacy for Pakistan, and opening doors to other nations and sharing the culture, cuisine, trades, business and the warmth the country has to offer.
They had also attended the various sessions and events of CSW-63/2019 including high level interactive dialogue, accelerating implementation of the Beijing declaration and platform for action, investing in gender equality parliaments ensuring social protection by protection, public service, infrastructure, Deliver for women and Girls by inter- parliamentary union, inverting gender equality parliament ensuring social protection, women in decision do make a difference etc.
The visiting delegation including Ms. Sadia Jawed MPA, Ms. Nuzhat Shirin, chairperson, Status of Women Commission Sindh, and representatives of NGOs from Sindh had also attended “Breaking Stereotypes Muslim Women as Agents of Change” organized by Pakistan Co-sponsored Iran, Turkey and Indonesia. With many other side events and session during the two week CSW-63/2019.
During the Commission’s annual two-week session, representatives of UN Member States, civil society organizations and UN entities gather at UN headquarters in New York. They discuss progress and gaps in the implementation document on gender equality, and the 23rd special session of the General Assembly held in 2000 (Beijing+5), as well as emerging issues that affect gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women, is a United Nations entity working for the empowerment of women.
