Sopore fruit growers, traders protest highway ban
Srinagar, July 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, fruit growers and traders held a protest demonstration in Sopore town to protest against the authorities’ move of restricting civilian traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway in the name of so-called security of Amarnath yatris. A large number of people including fruit growers, dealers, businessmen and local people assembled in the compound of Fruit Mandi, Sopore, to protest against the ban.
They were shouting slogans and holding placards and banners which read “revoke highway ban”, “We love yatris”. The protestors asserted that Amaranth pilgrims “are our brothers and guests” and Kashmiri people will give them safe passage wherever they needed but the ban is anti-people. They demanded immediate revocation of the ban on the movement of civilian traffic on the highway.
President of Traders Federation Fruit Mandi, Sopore, Fayaz Ahmed Malik said that due to the ban businessmen, horticulture and even students were suffering badly. Meanwhile, senior APHC leader and the President of Anjuman Sharie Shian, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the authorities should not curb the movement of the people on the highway.
