Karachi: Pakistan’s top tennis player Aqeel Khan recorded a straightset triumph against sibling Jalil Khan in the opening match of PTF Men’s Master Cup on Wednesday at PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad.
In the first match of the tournament, Aqeel Khan found little resistance from his younger brother Jalil Khan and recorded a convincing 64, 64 victory.
Pakistan Tennis Federation PTF selected top eight players namely Aqeel Khan Karachi, Yasir Khan Karachi, Muhammad Abid Lahore, Sanaullah Khan Peshawar, Heera Ashiq Lahore, Jalil Khan Karachi, Imran Shaukat Multan and Usman Ejaz Islamabad for the event on the basis of year end ranking.
According to the draw players have been divided into two groups. Group A comprises of Aqeel Khan, Sanaullah Khan, Jalil Khan and Usman Ejaz while Group B consists of Yasir Khan, Muhammad Abid, Heera Ashiq and Imran Shaukat.
The players would play one another in the group matches and the top players would qualify for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Sanaullah Khan won his encounter against Usman Ejaz in straight sets 62,767 in Group A’s second match.
In Group B, second seed Yasir Khan dropped a set before beating Heera Ashiq in a well contested three set match by 62, 26, 64 score. Muhammad Abid defeated Imran Shaukat by 676, 62, 62 score.
PTF has nominated Arif Qureshi as tournament Referee while Shahzad Akhtar Alvi will work as chief of umpires for the tournament.
