UN Chief urges dialogue on Kashmir dispute

September 12, 2019

United Nations, September 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has appealed to India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue. UN Secretary General’s Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, at a press briefing in New York said, Antonio Guterres had spoken to the leaders of both countries. “Guterres met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the side-lines of the G7 Summit last month in Biarritz, France, and has also spoken to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi,” Dujarric said.

On Monday, Guterres also met Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi over the Kashmir issue. “His message to all of them has been the same, that he remains very concerned about any potential escalation between India and Pakistan,” the Spokesperson added.
