Urgent release of KU funds stressed

Karachi: Karachi University Employees Welfare Association in an emergency meeting here Thursday demanded of the government to immediately release the funds for this premier university to save it from a deepening crisis.

The meeting, with association president Muhammad Tahir Khan in chair, noted with concern that the government even did not release funds to meet the expenses due to government announcement of enhancing salaries and pensions of government employees.

It said the utility charges of the varsity are on a constant rise with no proportionate increase in the budget allocations. It demanded of the federal government and Higher Education Commission HEC to immediately release funds for this cash-strapped varsity; otherwise, the KU employees may use their right of peaceful protest.
