Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (MEKUNU) in Southwest Arabian Sea

Islamabad, May 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (MEKUNU), after intensification, is now located near latitude 14.0° N and 55.5° E. It is likely to further intensify during next 24 hrs, and will continue to move north-ward (towards southern coast of Oman and adjoining coast of Yemen). The real-time regional meteorological data and most of the models are indicating that the MEKUNU will cross the coast on Friday evening/night as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 150-160 Km/hr gusting to 180 Km/hr.

The Cyclone MEKUNU, at 0900 UTC, is located at 1436 km south-west of Gwadar and 1700 km from Karachi. None of the area of Pakistan’s coast is under threat by this very severe tropical cyclone.
