Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the Govt of Pakistan stands committed to ensure human rights under articles of the constitution and the UN declaration of human rights.
He stated this in his message on the occasion of International Human Rights Day being observed throughout the world on Tuesday.
The President said in his message ”The observance of International Human Rights Day on every December 10th is an occasion to reiterate our pledge to continue working for an environment where social, economic, cultural, political and other rights of every individual are not only appreciated but are also firmly upheld and protected without any kind of distinction, discrimination or inequality.
Human Rights are the basic values that societies live by, which find their origin in the world’s great religions and philosophies. The Government of Pakistan stands committed to ensure human rights under articles of the Constitution and the UN Declaration of Human rights.
The theme for World Human Rights Day 2013, “20 YEARS: WORKING FOR YOUR RIGHTS “, while marking the 20th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (VPDA), the mandate of the U.N Proclamation for Human Rights, simultaneously emphasizes on identifying the challenges that lie ahead.
Let us reiterate our pledge as conscientious and responsible society to contribute individually as well as collectively in putting an end to all challenges and factors that endanger and jeopardize basic rights of the individuals. We need to augment efforts to protect vulnerable sections of the society and to provide them with legislative, administrative, institutional and infrastructural support to enable them lead a happy and healthy life.
I take this opportunity to commend the UN for observing this day globally and also pay homage to all those who have suffered in the course of the struggle for human rights.
On this day, I call upon the government, civil society, NGOs and the private institutions to fortify their efforts for establishing a just and tolerant society by ensuring respect for human rights and dignity”, he added in his message.
