Sialkot: The project of establishing an international standard Garments Training Institute at Sialkot had been lying in doldrums due to the funds paucity for the last two years.
Chief Coordinator Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ejaz A. Khokhar expressed grave concern over the inordinate delay in materializing this mega project despite the passage of two years and approval of the needed funds from Export Development Fund (EDF). He said that EDF had approved the early release of a special grant of Rs.125 million for this project and the said amount had been lying stuck up in the Ministry of Finance.
He said that this institute could be a fresh blood to be injected in the garments industry of Sialkot, but the funds paucity was the main obstacle in the way of early launch of this project. Ejaz A. Khokhar said that the early establishment of Garments Training Institute at Sialkot was direly needed for flourishing the garments industry of Sialkot by providing the skilled labour to this industry after giving them the necessary training of the advanced skills, in this regard. He urged the government to ensure the early release of Rs. 125 million special grant already approved by the Export Development Fund (EDF) for this project in the larger interest of the Sialkot’s garments industry.
