51% Pakistanis believe ex-president Musharraf should be pardoned and send out of the country, Survey


Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 51% Pakistanis believe ex-president Musharraf should be pardoned and send out of the country; 48% say he should be tried for his crimes.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think that ex-President Pervaiz Musharraf should be pardoned and sent out of the country while others think he should not be forgiven and all his crimes should be properly tried.

What is your opinion?” Responding to this, 51% said he should be pardoned and sent out of the country whereas 48% replied that he should be properly tried for his crimes. 1% did not respond.

This question was previously asked in February 2014. At the time 44% of the respondents were in favour of ex-President being pardoned and sent out of country and 55% were of them opinion that he should be properly tried for his crimes. 1% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2538 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Apr 7, 2014 – Apr 14, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
