Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 78% Pakistanis are of the opinion that the government should engage in a dialogue with the Taliban.
A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Nowadays the government is in talks with the Taliban.
Some people are of the opinion that the government should engage in the dialogue while others think such dialogue is useless. What is your opinion?” Responding to this, 78% said the dialogue should occur compared to only 21% who said it should not. 1% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2538 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Apr 7, 2014 – Apr 14, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
