ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Syed Hasan Javed has said that Pakistan has the greatest unutilized potential in the region and it is the world’s most promising emerging market with sound macro economic fundamentals.

According to a press statement issued here on Wednesday, he called upon the German investors and the Business Houses, large, medium and small to avail themselves of the investment opportunities that Pakistan has offered as it is poised to become a next star performer among the “Flying geese economies” in the Asia-Pacific region.

He was addressing to the participants of a Pakistan Business Day Seminar, “Pakistan’s Trade and Investment Scenario: Prospects and Opportunities” organized by the Embassy under the aegis of the Asia Pacific Forum on Wednesday.

The Ambassador said that all foreign investment in Pakistan was fully protected under the law and allowed 100 % repatriation of equity, dividend and profits to the foreign investors.

Launch of an economic forum, GATE-Pakistan (German Association of Trade and Economy) last year will ignite a new phase in mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership between the two countries, he added.

President of the GATE-Pakistan, Dr. Pantelis C. Poetis made a presentation on newly established this economic forum and its project of establishment of an Exclusive Economic Zone in Pakistan for the German companies.

He said that the proposed Pakistan- China Economic Corridor has opened a new vista of trilateral economic cooperation among Germany, China and Pakistan. Pakistan’s Geo-strategic location provides access to around half of the world population and opening of overland trade route to the western China will usher in a new era of economic prosperity in this region, he added.

Dr. Sohail Safdar, Economic Minister, Pakistan Mission to EU, Brussels gave a presentation on GSP plus facility extended to Pakistan by the EU.

He said that Pakistan’s export to EU during the year 2014 had registered an overall increase of 20% whereas textile clothing registered 30% increase.

He said that Pakistan had a five year engagement plan with the EU which covers different areas of cooperation including Human Rights, Security Issue, Trade & Investment, Energy Dialogue and Technical Cooperation.

Mr. Sebastian Frisch of ALBA Group briefed the participants about its Solid, Industrial and Hazardous Waste Management Projects and its plan to undertake Solid Waste and Hospital Waste Management projects in Pakistan. Earlier, Dr. Talat Mahmood, Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Forum, Berlin welcomed the participants and highlighted the various aspects of Pakistan Economy and its positive growth in the recent years.
