ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday called for stepped up efforts to ensure safety and security of media professionals, especially in the situations of armed conflict.
Pakistan’s ambassador to United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said this while speaking in a debate on Protection of Journalists in Conflict Situations at the U.N. Security Council.
She said threats to the journalists had become more complex today as some regions of the world descend into chaos. She said several new trends are now in evidence that pose challenges especially to female and freelance media workers. She stressed the need to strengthen the means to assure the safety of journalists.
