Islamabad: PPP Co-Chairman former President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated the Christians on the eve of Easter and called for joining hands for the promotion of human equality, religious tolerance and interfaith harmony.
I felicitate the Christians of the world, both within Pakistan and abroad and wish them a blessed Easter, the former President said in a message on the eve of Easter falling on Sunday .
Paying tributes to the members of Christian community as ‘peaceful, law abiding and loyal’ citizens the former President lauded the role played by them in the advancement and development of the country.
“The PPP was well aware of the apprehensions of members of Christina community about the misuse of some laws against members of their community and shares their concern”.
He deplored that growing misuse of blasphemy law against the minorities including Christians and called upon scholars and intellectuals to deliberate on how to check the abuse and misuse of the law and promote interfaith harmony.
The PPP was committed to pursue the goal of equality, freedom and security for Christians and indeed all Non Muslim minorities in the country, he said adding “we will continue to fight the ideology of religion inspired violence that lay at the heart of terrorism”.
The Party is also committed to work towards safeguarding the right of all minorities to freely profess and practice their religion.
