Flour Millers appeal to PM and CM Punjab for restoring wheat supply to Rawalpindi Region

Islamabad: The Flour Millers of Rawalpindi Region in an emergency meeting have appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister Punjab to intervene and order for urgent removal of illegal ban on wheat supply to Rawalpindi Region as due to this situation, survival of 140 flour mills of the region has been jeopardized. This state of affairs will also create flour shortage in the region and common man will badly suffer.

They said Rawalpindi Region flour mills supply flour to Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Taxila, Attock, Rawat and Jhelum areas, but illegal ban on wheat supply to these flour mills will create extreme shortage of flour in these areas and bring more miseries to the people.

They alleged that DCOs of Sargodha, Wazirabad, Jhang and Mianwali have started to stop the Rawalpindi bound wheat loaded trucks and unload them at government store houses just to achieve their targets and appease the rulers.

They said this year, Punjab and Sindh achieved bumper crop of wheat and according to some agricultural experts, Punjab produced 2-million more wheat as compared to previous year due to which Punjab Food Department, PASCO and private sector have sufficient stock of wheat. But due to mismanagement and bad governance, a situation of anarchy is being created.

They said Director and Secretary, Punjab Food Department were requested many times to ensure free movement of wheat in Punjab while Chief Secretary Punjab in a meeting had also directed the administration to ensure wheat supply to flour mills, but despite such clear instructions, Rawalpindi Region is being victimized.

They appealed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab to intervene and direct the concerned authorities for regular supply of wheat to flour mills of Rawalpindi Region so that the region could be saved from any flour crisis.

Sheikh Muhammad Shabbir former Chairman All Pakistan Flour Mills Association, former Chairmen Punjab Tariq Sadiq, Raza Ahmed Shah, Ch. Muhammad Afzal, Abdur Rehman Khan, Ch. Mukhtar, former Secretary General Haji Muhammad Akram, Sanaullah Durrani, senior members Ch. Mushahid, Sheikh Iftikhar Ahmed, Sheikh Shaukat and many other flour millers attended the meeting.
