Islamabad: The High Commissioner of Pakistan in India, Mr. Abdul Basit Khan, called on the Minister of Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan. He apprised the Minister on the details of recent visit of the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to India.
The vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is to promote regional peace and harmony and in that context to promote regional trade and investment.
The Minister of Commerce informed the High Commissioner about his last visit to India in January 2014 and on the process of normalizing trade relations. He emphasized the need of active trade diplomacy in order to tap the vast potential of Indian market for Pakistani products.
He assured all out cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce in exploring the Indian market and urged the importance of maximizing business to business contacts by sending and receiving trade delegations.
The Minister stated that as per the vision of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, economic interests should reign supreme while setting out diplomatic policies and strategies and in that regard, every effort should be made to bring improvement in our trade and investment relations with India.
The High Commissioner appreciated the warm support by the Ministry of Commerce in enhancing economic relations with India and to promote regional peace and security by increasing the people to people contact.
