Government ready for electoral reforms: Nisar

Islamabad: Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan has said that the government is ready to sit with the opposition to bring electoral reforms.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, he said the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner before general elections was carried out in consultations with parties inside and outside the parliament.

He said that PTI was in the forefront to propose the name of Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim for the slot of Chief Election Commissioner.

The Interior Minister assured that Islamabad administration would extend full cooperation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to hold its rally on Sunday.

He said we have no objections to the democratic and political rights of protest in a peaceful manner. He, however, said that there should be a modus operandi for the protest. He said we need to sit together and determine a place of protest in Islamabad .

Earlier, PTI Chief Imran Khan requested the government not to create any hurdle in their way to stage the protest on Sunday at it is their democratic right.

He rejected the impression that his party wants to derail the democratic process. He said demanding transparent and free elections actually helps strengthen democracy.
