Islamabad: The government has planned to focus on energy projects in the next budget to overcome power shortage in the country. According to media reports 260 billion rupees will be allocated in the 2014-15 federal budget to initiate several new energy projects besides expediting work to complete ongoing schemes.
The new energy projects include Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project which will generate over 8000 megawatt electricity. The work on 969 megawatt Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project will also be expedited. Similarly, special allocation is being made for upgrading generating units at Mangla Dam which will add 310 megawatt electricity to national grid. The hydropower will generate cheap electricity, providing relief to the people.
