Govt will hold population census next year: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has stressed the need for keeping balance between population and resources for the development of the country.

He was addressing Population Summit 2015 here on Thursday. He said Pakistan is the sixth largest populated country and added that a coordinated policy needed to address the issue of increasing population growth.

He called upon the Ulema and civil society to play their due role in creating awareness among the people on the issue. He said national consensus on controlling the rapid population growth is good sign.

He suggested formation of a Task Force, which would review the matters relating to population in every six months. He said exact statistics of population is imperative for achieving the development targets. He said for this purpose the Government will hold population census next year.

The President said the government has initiated numerous development projects. He said China Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC) is very important.

He said under the CPEC the work is continuing on projects like Gwadar port, Gwadar airport, motorways, and energy projects. He said the Government is determined to complete these projects despite resource constraints.
