Minister: (Gawadar port to serve as gateway of China-Pak economic corridor)

ISLAMABAD: A nine-member Gwadar Sub Working Group, that is visiting Pakistan to expedite implementation process of Gawadar projects under China-Pak Economic Corridor, met Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Prof Ahsan Iqbal here on Wednesday, to review Gawadar related development projects.

The delegation was led by Mr Wang Jing Chun. According to a statement, in the light of decision taken during Gwadar Working Group Meeting, approval process of Gwadar Projects has been expedited and ECNEC has approved Eastbay Expressway and New Gwadar International Airport Projects.

Projects for social well being which play an instrumental role in inclusive and sustainable growth were also discussed and status of already agreed social sector projects was reviewed. The meeting provided opportunity to further fine tune some of the items that were discussed during the Gwadar Joint Group and will help completion of Gwadar projects on time.

Meanwhile, another delegation from Promotion and Protection Center for Chinese Overseas Interests under its chairman Mr Yan Li Jin also called on Prof Ahsan Iqbal here on Wednesday.

The Minister assured government’s cooperation and assistance in addressing the issue of Chinese security concern and acknowledged that peace and security in Pakistan can attract more Chinese investment companies on energy to invest in Pakistan.

To provide greater connectivity to Gwadar Port, he said, “Various initiatives have been taken as Gwadar can act as a hub for trade between Pakistan, China, Central Asia, Gulf Region and Afghanistan. It has the potential to become the most convenient, economical and popular access route for Central Asian commerce and as an energy corridor”.

The Minister said, “The Gawadar Port will serve as gateway of China-Pak Economic Corridor. It will create new development opportunities in Balochistan and the country. The government is using all resources to accelerate the pace of the projects”.
