ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Baligh-ur-Rehman has said that ensuring security of journalists is a shared responsibility and the government is committed to play its part in training journalists and providing necessary security equipment.
He was addressing the conference to combat Impunity and Safety of Journalists here on Wednesday. He said the country is in middle of Zarb-e-Azb operation. He said that Peshawar attack was not only against our children, but actually it was an attack on our future.
He said journalists particularly working in the conflict areas were more vulnerable to impunity and the government will be taking measures to address these issues. He said a media cell in the interior ministry is constituted in this regard, so to look into media related complaints on priority basis.
He said Media Liaison Committee on National Action Plan (NAP) has also started working which has the representation of all stakeholders including media people, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Interior. He said an android application is developed by Ministry of Interior and ICT to facilitate impunity related complaints.
The minister said that soon much awaited Cyber Crime Law would be passed by the Parliament to counter online threats. He said the suggestions proposed by the conference would minutely be looked into and the government would try its best to incorporate them into legislation.
