ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology and Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, visited COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad campus on Thursday.
Dr Syed Junaid Zaidi, the Rector CIIT along with other senior officials welcomed the Minister. Soon after his arrival at CIIT, the Minster was taken for a tour of the campus facilities, and its various departments, including Department of Electrical Engineering and its laboratories, Department of Physics as well as the 3D GIT (graphical imagery therapy) Laboratory in Computer Science, where research work related to computational psychology is being carried out.
The Minister also visited the Central Library and was briefed about the various facilities being provided to the students and faculty.
Later he also visited Students Service Center followed by a comprehensive presentation made by Rector CIIT on CIIT’s growth, its mission, expansion, and its future program.
The Minister appreciated and applauded the fast paced growth and up precedent achievements of CIIT. He also shared his views regarding the situation of higher education in the country and the various steps that have been taken to restore the confidence in the educational system as well as other segments of the society in the country.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that strong linkages should be established between academia, researchers and industries. It is the need of the hour that the impact factor of R&D and innovation might be materialized in the form of economic growth of the country, he added.
