ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s pledge to defence Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty at all costs.
He stated this while delivering policy statement at joint sitting of the Parliament here on Monday. The session was convened to devise a unanimous strategy to deal with the Middle East crisis with focus on the Yemen conflict.
The Defence Minister apprised the Parliamentarians of the latest situation in Yemen as well as Pakistan’s efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully. In this connection, he referred to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Turkey, which he undertook as part of diplomatic efforts on this count.
He said situation in Yemen has created security concerns for the region as well as Pakistan. He said keeping in view the gravity of the situation, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided to convene the joint session for evolving a unanimous strategy to deal with the challenge.
He said the PML-N government believes in taking united stance on important issues. He thanked Saudi and Chinese governments for extending full support to ensure safe evacuation of stranded Pakistanis in Yemen.
He said Pakistan is the only country today, which is fighting the terrorists head on. He said we have sacrificed over fifty thousand lives and suffered a loss of more than one hundred billion dollars to ensure global peace, but no one came to our help in this war.
