Islamabad: Mr. Herve Ladsous, Under Secretary General, UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) Monday called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Mr. Herve Ladsous was accompanied by Lt. General Maqsood Ahmed, Military Adviser DPKO, Mr. Guillaume Darme, Political Affairs Officer and Mr. Stefan Feller, Police Adviser DPKO.
Pakistan side included Mr. Nadeem Hassan Asif, Secretary to the President, Mr. Ahmad Farooq, Additional Secretary, Ms. Saba Mohsin Raza, Press Secretary to the President and Ms. Tasnim Aslam, Additional Secretary (UN&EC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President while welcoming Mr. Herve Ladsous and his delegation to Pakistan greatly appreciated the leadership of Secretary General Ban especially in promoting peace, security and development across the world and also towards further strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and United Nations.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment towards UN peacekeeping efforts, the President remarked that it was rooted in country’s foreign policy objectives and the importance that we attach to multilateralism and the United Nations as the best means of addressing the challenges of today.
The President reaffirmed that UN will always find Pakistan as a reliable partner in its effort for the maintenance of international peace and security.
As a leading troop contributor, the President said, Pakistan has a significant stake in the success of UN peacekeeping. On this occasion the President also highlighted Pakistan’s contribution and the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers towards this noble cause.
The President said that we were proud of our brave men and women who have served under the UN flag with professionalism and selfless devotion to the cause of world peace. They have indeed set high standards, observed the President.
The President also highlighted Pakistan’s positive contributions towards policy discussions aimed at further strengthening and enhancing the effectiveness of peacekeeping.
In this regard the President mentioned Pakistan’s tenure of Presidency of the Security Council wherein the landmark Resolution 2086 on multidimensional peacekeeping was adopted in January 2013.
The President said that Pakistan looks forward to continuing close interaction with the Secretariat to further enhance cooperation in the UN peacekeeping efforts.
The President also welcomed the appointment of Gen. Maqsood Ahmed in UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and expressed the hope that his presence would further boost our cooperation and mutual understanding.
Mr. Herve Ladsous thanked the President for meeting and greatly appreciated Pakistan’s role and contributions towards peacekeeping efforts by the United Nations.
