ISLAMABAD: The Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif on a point of order told the National Assembly on Tuesday that a campaign against Information Minister Pervez Rashid has been launched by some religious circles due to misunderstanding of his statement regarding religious seminaries.
He said there are over twenty thousand religious seminaries that are doing a great service and providing education and lodging and boarding facilities to the students.
He said there are only three to four percent Madaris about which the government has evidence that they are directly or indirectly involved in terrorist activities. He said such campaign is a result of a violent thinking.
Khawaja Asif said an adjournment motion was moved by Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman but after statement by the Information Minister in Senate yesterday, the matter has been settled there. He said an adjournment motion has also been submitted in the National Assembly.
He said after the statement of the Information Minister in the Senate and after the explanation by Defence Minister in the Lower House, the matter should be settled here and the adjournment motion should not be taken forward.
He said our religion Islam teaches us tolerance and brotherhood. He said those who are carrying campaign against the Minister are doing no service to the religion.
