NA: (NA Speaker calls for collective global strategy to address terrorism)


ISLAMABAD: Denouncing the recent terror attack in France, the National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called for a collective global strategy to tackle the menace of terrorism.

He said that terrorism was a threat to global peace and prosperity. He said this while talking to British High commissioner Mr. Philip Barton who called on him here on Monday.

The Speaker said that a global strategy was imperative for tackling the menace of terrorism. He said that Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism since more than a decade resulting in loss of lives of law enforcers, innocent civilians apart from massive loss to the infrastructure and property.

He called for global joint efforts to combat this menace otherwise proliferation of such activities would make the world unsafe.

The Speaker also underlined the need for strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and United Kingdom through active parliamentary interaction. He said that parliamentarians from either side could bring both the nations more closer. He termed it a beneficial way of exchange of views and experiences.

The British High Commissioner Mr. Philip Barton agreed with the Speaker and said that saying that it was high time to forge joint strategy to address this issue.

He said that his country acknowledges the sacrifices of Pakistan in fight against militancy in Pakistan and praised the military action being taken against militants. He also agreed for intensifying parliamentary interaction between Pakistani and UK parliamentarians for strengthening of UK-Pak relations.

He said Pak-UK Friendship groups could play a proactive role in this regard. He also congratulated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on winning the election and becoming Speaker of the National Assembly.
