Islamabad: National Assembly resumed its budget session on Thursday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair and continued debate on budget on 2014-15.
Taking part in the budget discussion, Dr. Azra Fazal said Gas Infrastructure Development Cess should be collected by the provincial governments instead of the federal government.
She stressed the need for restructuring and reformation of WAPDA to make it more efficient.
Aaisha Gulalai described the budget as highly inflationary and anti-poor. She said the government has increased the general sales tax to 17 per cent which has resulted in price hike.
She said sufficient steps have not been taken for direct taxation in the budget. Gulalai said the Khuber Pakhtunkhwa government is introducing changes to education and police departments.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai called upon the parliamentarians to be united for strengthening democracy in the country.
He said democracy is the best system of governance in the world. He said we have to fight each and every person who wants to destabilize the democracy.
Achakzai said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif should be on one page that they should take the country forward as a democratic state.
He suggested to PTI Chief Imran Khan to demonstrate good governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provide good education and in-expensive justice to the people of the province.
He demanded for convening a joint sitting of the parliament to make a front to save democracy. He said he will be in the forefront to save democracy in Pakistan.
