Islamabad: Chairperson Prime Minister’s Youth Program Maryam Nawaz says her entire team is working day and night to ensure implementation of the prime minister’s schemes for youth while ensuring merit and transparency.
Speaking at the national launch of the prime minister’ laptop scheme, she said 12,000 successful applicants of the first two ballots of the loan scheme have not only established their businesses but have also started the process of returning the loan.
Ms Sharif said 40,000 students are being reimbursed their fee under another scheme. There are plans to further widen the scope of this scheme. She said over five hundred thousand laptops will be distributed amongst the outstanding students in five years of the present government.
She assured that no student will remain deprived of education just because of lack of resources. She said 25,000 thousand youths are learning different skills under the skills development program and their first batch will pass out in August this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said funds have been shifted to the higher education commission for the lap top and fee reimbursement schemes.
He said the government is giving priority to the welfare of students and these schemes will continue for the entire five year tenure of the PML-N government. He said the Prime Minister’s initiative of micro finance scheme will also be launched shortly.
In his welcome address, Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said the prime minister’s schemes for youth including lap top and fee reimbursement are aimed at providing enabling environment to the youth and promote research culture.
He said it is for the first time that the higher education commission was disbursed the full budget in the current fiscal year while a record amount of 63 billion rupees have been allocated for it for the next financial year.
He assured that the universities will be equipped with all the latest facilities in order to facilitate the students. He said a Chinese company has showed its intent to start production of one thousand laptops in the country which will set the foundation of a new industry.
