ISLAMABAD: Overseas Pakistanis Foundation has distributed over Rs 63 billion among 7,000 families of deceased overseas Pakistanis since inception of its financial aid scheme in 1981.
In accordance with the instructions of Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Pir Syed Saddarudin Shah Rashdi, the cheques of OPF financial aid scheme were distributed to the deserving families of deceased overseas Pakistanis by the respective Regional Heads of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation at Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan and Mirpur (AJK) in a simple and modest manner, said a OPF press statement issued here on Wednesday.
The cheques among the deserving families of Pakistani expatriates from Rawalpindi, Islamabad and adjacent areas were distributed by Managing Director OPF, Habib Ur Rahman Khan here at OPF head office.
Talking on this occasion, Managing Director, Habib Ur Rahman Khan said that OPF is a welfare organization starving for provision of facilities and services to Pakistanis expatriates and their dependents in all walks of life.
He said that OPF has introduced financial aid scheme in 1980-81 to provide financial assistance to the destitute families of overseas Pakistanis in the event of death or disability of overseas Pakistanis. “It is aimed at helping the bereaved families to overcome their initial financial problems soon after the demise or disability of their earning members”, he added.
MD, OPF said that overseas Pakistanis plays pivotal role in the economy of Pakistan and their contribution could not be ignored. He further said that OPF always stood by with Pakistani diaspora and their dependents. “We will never let them alone in odd situation”, he said.
During the current financial year, Rs. 12 billion will be distributed among 800 families of overseas Pakistanis. For convenience of applicants, the cheques of financial aid scheme are being distributed through OPF regional offices across the country.
