ISLAMABAD: According to a Win Gallup International Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 73% Pakistanis agree that despite its problems, democracy is the best system of government.
Nationally representative samples of adult men and women from across the globe in 62 countries were asked the following question, “To what extent do you agree with the following statement: Democracy may have problems but it is the best system of government.”
According to the results, the world population shows a high degree of acceptance for democracy. 76% believe that democracy may have problems but it is the best system of government. 20% on the other hand did not agree with this statement and 4% did not respond.
Specific results from Pakistan are also in line with the global results. 73% Pakistanis agree/somewhat agree that democracy is the best system of government despite its problems. 25% on the other hand disagree/somewhat disagree with this statement and 2% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2000 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during October 19 – October 30, 2015. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
