Pervez Musharraf’s team of counsels boycott special court proceedings

Islamabad: A team of counsels defending the former president general retired Pervez Musharraf in high treason case under article 6 has boycotted the proceedings of special court on Monday. Barrister Farogh Naseem has submitted his power of attorney in the special court and presented the former president before the court.

Earlier Musharraf’s legal team decided to boycott court proceedings and refused to recognize the court argued that after Justice Faisal Arab had declined to further hear this case during the previous hearing as this special court stands dissolved.

According to media reports Musharraf counsels were of the view that Justice Faisal Arab had decided to dissociate himself from the hearing but later in written order he has decided not to disassociate himself from the bench. The counsels claimed that Justice Faisal Arab’s remarks against Anwar Mansoor are unnecessary and against the facts.

On the other hand hardly a dozen Musharraf loyalists’ workers of All Pakistan Muslim League managed to reach the court where the trial was taking place. The supporters held portraits of Pervez Musharraf and chanted slogans in support of the former army chief. This was almost the same group of supporters present at the court a month ago, when Musharraf made his first court appearance.
